The fifth qstarter awards took place on January 22, 2018, at the Villa Hatt in Zurich.

A briskly event featuring Download11 projects (PDF, 517 KB) and start-up ideas in the competition. Our hounarable industry board represented by Nanosurf, Sensirion, Zurich Instruments, ABB, Nanonis SPECS enjoyed a challenging selection. From the Swiss National Science Foundation, we also welcomed the Program Manager of external pageBRIDGE, Dr. Christian Brunner as our guest.

Following concise pitch talks, the inventors discussed intensely their projects with representatives of QSIT’s industry partners during a buffet lunch.

The fourth qstarter awards took place on January 23, 2017, at the Villa Hatt in Zurich.

This year, we welcomed CEO Dr. Urs Matter and Dr. Nikola Pascher from Nanosurf. We are honored to add Nanosurf to our distinct industry board represented by Sensirion, Zurich Instruments, ABB, Nanonis SPECS and IDQuantique. From the Swiss National Science Foundation, we also welcomed Thomas Griessen as our guest.

Following concise pitch talks, the inventors discussed intensely their projects with representatives of QSIT’s industry partners during a buffet lunch.

This year’s jury pointed out the importance of a clear evolution of the project. Also they advised, to develop an early roadmap for the patents in case of a venture. This would insure freedom of operation for the start up. Finally, the jury acknowledged the wide spectrum of topics, covered by the ten projects, from software to hardware reaching out even to the gaming industry.

The  third qstarter awards took place on December 2, 2015, at the Villa Hatt in Zurich.

This year, we welcomed Marc Zbinden from the Swiss National Science Foundation as our guests. Following short pitch talks, the inventors discussed their projects with representatives of QSIT’s industry partners and ETH transfer during a buffet lunch. In addition to last year’s the criteria general impression, novelty, originality, business potential and impact on research, this year’s jury pointed out the importance of collaborations as well as a clearly structured plan of how to move the project forward.

Finally, to celebrate 3 years with a total of 30 submitted projects, each participant was presented with a personal version of qstarter’s Game of inventions. The object of the game is to collect complete sets of four cards each representing a qstarter invention in the Categories Optics, Low Noise Electronics, Cryogenics, Quantum, Electronics platform, Materials, Gadget, and Contributors.

The  second qstarter awards took place on September 24, 2014, at the Villa Hatt in Zurich.

Following short pitch talks, the inventors discussed their projects with representatives of QSIT’s industry partners and ETH transfer during a buffet lunch. Thanks to a new mentoring system that we introduced after evaluating feedback from last year’s event, many participants were able to make new connections and receive detailed feedback about their projects. Finally, the industry jury rated the projects according to the critera general impression, novelty, originality, business potential and impact on research.

We thank all participants for their valuable contributions! If you could not win this time, keep up your inventive spirit- there will be another contest in 2015.
